Two young girls were injured tonight by a speeding car in Manurewa, police said.
The Blue Ford Fairmont lost control at about 7.55pm on Wordsworth Road, hitting the girls, age 10 and 12, who were walking along the pavement. The force of the impact threw both girls into the garden of the property where the Fairmont crashed, police said.
Bystanders held the driver and passenger of the vehicle and kept them until police arrived.
The girls were reported as suffering serious injuries and have been taken to Starship Hospital.
Police said they believe the vehicle was travelling at high speed and that it was likely alcohol was involved.
