Two children were airlifted from the Rainbow Ski Field near Nelson Lakes this afternoon after injuring their backs in falls.
The 15-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy from Kaikoura had been taking part in skiing training when they fell, the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter said.
The girl suffered head and back injuries when she fell on a downhill run. She was flown to Nelson Hospital in a stable condition.
The boy was later flown to Wairau Hospital in Blenheim with minor back injuries after a similar incident.
Both were assessed and initially treated by the helicopter's intensive care paramedic before being stabilised for their flights.
