KEY POINTS:
Two men have been charged with the murder of Palmerston North man Stanley Waipouri who was found dead in his flat last Saturday.
The men, both from Palmerston North, had previously been charged with assault, Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan said.
"It has been established that Stanley lived alone and the two arrested men were visitors," he said.
The two men will appear in Palmerston North District Court today.
A post mortem showed Mr Waipouri, 39, suffered multiple serious injuries but further forensic testing was needed to establish the exact cause of death.
A team of 12 detectives will continue to work on the investigation in the weeks ahead, Mr Sheridan said.
The scene examination finished yesterday. There was "considerable forensic examination" to be undertaken and this would begin in the new year, he said.
Mr Waipouri's funeral is being held this afternoon.
