KEY POINTS:
Two people are to appear in court today in connection with an alleged assault on a severely intellectually disabled man at a residential home near Levin in March.
The two former carers have been charged with assaulting Michael Finlay, 48, who was allegedly dragged out of bed and kicked on the floor of his home.
Levin police said that a Levin man, 57, would appear in Levin District Court while a Cambridge man, 54, would appear in Hamilton District Court today.
Both were former employees at the Kimberley Centre near Levin and with NZCare, an organisation that cares for former Kimberley patients now living in the community after the Government closed the centre.
They were jointly charged with assaulting Mr Finlay in a NZCare community home during a staff party on March 23.
Mr Finlay suffered two broken ribs, grazes and bruises. Wounds to his lip and tongue may have been inflicted by a dog in the home at the time of the assault.
