KEY POINTS:
Two men have been arrested following an assault at Hillmorton Hospital in Christchurch last year.
It is alleged the men pushed Vernon Tuck, a patient at the psychiatric unit, off a patio. He suffered serious spinal injuries and is now a tetraplegic.
The assault was made public by Mr Tuck's family after the Canterbury District Health Board launched an inquiry into its acute inpatient service following the sudden deaths of three patients.
Detective Sergeant Mark Keane said the men had been charged with injuring by an unlawful act and were due to appear in court next month.
