Nelson police have made one of their biggest-ever seizures of methamphetamine, or P, after stopping a car in Murchison.
Police found approximately 1.2kg of crystal meth, worth $1.2 million, inside the car.
Tasman District Commander Superintendent Mike Johnson said two people had been arrested and were now before the Nelson District Court facing charges.
"Police have seen the harm caused by drugs in our community, especially families," Johnson said. "Police [act] as an enforcer of the law, but we also need to continue to work collaboratively with our partners and communities."
He could not comment further on the case as it was before the courts.
Police Commissioner Mike Bush congratulated the Nelson officers, saying the seizure of the meth on June 22 was one of the biggest the region had seen.
