One boy, one girl and one teacher from Glen Eden Intermediate were hospitalised today after their buses crashed on the way back from a hike up Rangitoto.
Two Ritchies double-decker buses full of children were driving down the NorthWestern motorway in Auckland when the first slammed on its brakes and the second bus hit it from behind.
The buses were carrying four classes of Year 7 students from Glen Eden Intermediate's Te Henga mini-school.
The 140 students, most aged 11, had just completed a hike up Rangitoto Island, principal Maree Stavert said.
Seven children and a teacher were injured in the crash, with two children and the female teacher taken to hospital. The trio had moderate injuries and Stavert said they had been concussed.
