Police are seeking a man who stabbed two Hastings brothers and fatally wounded a dog in a confrontation in Flaxmere's Deal Crescent last night.
The attacker was a resident of the street who went to a house about 7.30pm and verbally abused the brothers before stabbing them, police said.
One was stabbed in the torso and the other in the arm.
A neighbour's dog was fatally wounded.
The attacker drove off and later abandoned his vehicle, which was found by police.
The brothers were taken to Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital, where one had emergency surgery and was in a serious condition.
The other was stable and would undergo surgery today.
