Auckland police are investigating two bank robberies within 20 minutes of each other yesterday afternoon.
The first was at 2.45pm, at the Kiwibank PostShop near King Edward St in Balmoral, where a man demanded cash from a teller.
He said he had a gun, but did not produce it.
He is described as a slim European in his early 20s, wearing a black or navy-blue cap, a black jacket, dark trousers and white sneakers, with a black and white checkered scarf covering his lower face. He was seen getting into a white, older-style sedan.
At 3.05pm, about 5km down the road, a man with an axe demanded cash from a female teller at the ASB bank on the corner of Dominion Rd and Richardson Rd.
He is described as a male Maori or Pacific Islander of about 18 or 19, of medium build and about 1.76m tall. He was wearing a blue hoodie, tan trousers and white sneakers.
He fled in a silver Subaru, registration DHE894, which was stolen from Mt Roskill earlier yesterday.
Anyone with information on either robbery is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Joe Aumua at Avondale Police Station on (09) 820-5714.
