Two Auckland toll road tunnels will be closed early next week as upgrades are made by the NZ Transport agency.
The Northern Gateway Johnstones Hill tunnels were due to close overnight on Monday and Tuesday next week while the final stage of work to upgrade the tunnel's traffic management systems is completed.
NZTA highways manager Brett Gliddon said the work would improve the tunnels' automated traffic management system, providing better traffic and safety monitoring systems to staff at the Auckland traffic operations centre.
The work will be carried out between the hours of 8.00pm and 5.00am to minimise disruption to road users, NZTA said.
The closure would affect tunnels in both direction, with detours to divert traffic onto the Hibiscus Coast Highway between Puhoi and the Silverdale interchange.
