Two men have been arrested and are expected to appear in court today to face charges in relation to a number of bank robberies in Waikato in the last month.
The Hamilton men, aged 17 and 30, were arrested near Morrinsville, 32km northeast of Hamilton, yesterday afternoon, after an incident in Westpac's Matamata branch, 30km southeast of Morrinsville.
The pair entered the bank shortly after 2pm and presented a note to the teller demanding money, Hamilton CIB acting Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greene said.
Earlier in the day the men had demanded money from a Westpac bank teller in Cambridge, 24km southeast of Hamilton, but ran off before any money could be handed over.
The men have also been charged in relation to robberies at the Dinsdale Westpac in suburban Hamilton on June 16 and the Hamilton East Westpac on June 24.
They were to appear in Hamilton District Court today on four charges of demanding with menace, Mr Greene said.
