KEY POINTS:
Two men have been arrested over the slaying of a New Zealand photojournalist killed in Kenya.
A homicide investigation was launched after Trent Keegan, 33, was found dead with severe head injuries in a roadside ditch in the capital Nairobi last month.
His wallet and money were recovered with him but camera equipment and a laptop a friend said he was carrying were missing.
Mr Keegan's family live in New Plymouth.
His sister, Nikki McKinnon, said Nairobi police told her two men were arrested last Thursday for her brother's death.
A third suspect was yet to be arrested.
"Any movement in that direction (of arrests) is good to hear but the hard thing is, no matter what happens, our predicament won't change," she told the Taranaki Daily News.
"He deserves, just like anybody deserves, to have these kind of people found because we don't want this to happen to anybody else."
Ms McKinnon said the family were still considering launching their own investigation because they were convinced his death was to do with a story he was working on in Tanzania.
"We don't want Trent to have died in vain if he was working on a story that was related."
No information about the arrested men was given to Keegan's family.
Ms McKinnon said the men have been charged with robbery with violence, but a court date has yet to be set.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokeswoman Emma Reilly said the department was in contact with the family.
"We've got an honorary counsel on the ground that provides updates that we then pass on," Ms Reilly said.
She said the department had provided an update to the family about 10 days ago and again last night.
