KEY POINTS:
A gang related brawl on the streets of Gisborne early today resulted in two arrests and one hospitalisation.
Sergeant Lincoln Sycamore of Gisborne police said around 50 people gathered on the intersection of Ida and Huxley Road around 2am.
Around half the group were actively involved in the fighting and rival sides where yelling gang slogans at one another.
"A male was hit, fell to the ground unconscious and was assaulted with a large piece of wood," he said.
The man was taken to hospital with a possible fractured eye socket.
Mr Sycamore said police were following several lines of inquiry in relation to the assault and two people were arrested for disorder and fighting.
