KEY POINTS:
Two people have been arrested following an incident in Tauranga last night which left two others seriously injured with multiple stab wounds.
Detective Sergeant Daryl Brazier said emergency services got a call from a house in Gate Pa about 8.30pm.
"Upon arrival at the address ambulance staff found two injured men who had been subjected to serious assaults," he said.
One of the victims was a 50-year-old man who was visiting the house, while the other was a 27-year-old resident.
Both remain in a serious condition in hospital with multiple stab wounds to their upper bodies.
Mr Brazier said police had since arrested a 22-year-old unemployed man, along with an unemployed 24-year-old mother, both from Tauranga.
The pair were due to appear today in Tauranga District Court charged with wounding with intend to cause grievous bodily harm.
Mr Brazier said police believed up to four people may have been responsible for the attack and the investigation would continue today with a forensic examination of the scene
