KEY POINTS:
Two people are in custody after a police chase through the Auckland suburbs of Ellerslie and Mt Wellington.
Inspector Chris Tait said a police car began following a car after noticing "suspicious behaviour".
He said the car went into the Ellerslie Race Course car park to try to lose the following police car.
Inspector Tait said the Police helicopter, Eagle, followed the car.
He said the car was not going fast because "most of the time the driver wasn't aware he was being pursued".
Inspector Tait said the car was stolen and had been involved in a burglary.
The car dropped a passenger off on a side street before heading to the Sylvia Park shopping centre where police arrested the driver.
Inspector Tait said the passenger was also arrested.
