A neighbour appears to have scared off two armed men who assaulted a young woman in her Hamilton home this morning.
The woman was said to be coming to terms with her ordeal, which included having a gun held to her head, while police are appealing for information from the public.
Police had not yet been able to get a description of the offenders from the shaken woman, Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton, of Hamilton CIB said.
"At this point we believe the woman has finished showering and gone into the kitchen of her Bryant Rd home about 9.30am only to find two balaclava-clad men standing there, one armed with a firearm.
"It appears the woman has been assaulted and then threatened with the firearm held to her head," he said.
"A neighbour's activities appear to have spooked our offenders who have fled the home."
Mr Thornton said detectives hoped to speak to the victim again tomorrow but in the interim police wanted to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious around 9.30am near Bryant Rd.
