Twins were seriously injured yesterday when the 4WD they were in rolled at Waiotahi Beach near Opotiki.
Police said the 4WD was driven by the Opotiki mother of the 23-month-old twins.
Another woman and her 1-year-old child were also in the vehicle.
One of the twins, a boy, was thrown from the vehicle and was flown by TrustPower TECT rescue helicopter to Starship hospital in Auckland with serious injuries to his head, chest and arms.
The other twin, a girl, and the 1-year-old are both in Waikato Hospital. The mothers suffered only minor injuries.
