South Wairarapa people turned out in force to enjoy the Kuranui College Twilight Picnic on Friday and didn't allow dicy weather to be any sort of deterrent.
The picnic was part of a series of fundraisers for the college and included vintage car rides along with traditional children's games such as egg and spoon races, and a scruffy dog competition.
Children had the opportunity to have their faces painted and the water balloon splash - where students had the chance to target and douse their teachers - was very popular.
College bands performed before the evening ended, including the singing of Christmas carols.
Principal Geoff Shepherd was delighted with the turnout. "Fortunately the weather gods gave us a few hours of sunshine and little wind, which gave the community a chance to come along and support us before the heavens opened," he said.
