A TV2 programme showing a man being arrested and taken to the police station to detox after abusing solvents has earned TVNZ $2000 in fines.
The complainant told the Broadcasting Standards Authority the footage was first broadcast on TV2 show Police in 2007 or 2008 and again last December.
"The filming had taken place in the mid to late 1990s and he had since 'gotten on with my life'," the complainant said.
The BSA found that although part of his face was blurred, the complainant's first name was used throughout the programme, and the footage of him included numerous full-length shots of him, shots of his property and street, and recordings of his voice.
TVNZ was ordered to pay the man $1000 for breach of privacy and $1000 in costs to the Crown.
