Two people with the first name Kelly will marry each other live on television next week, after a fresh vote saw them win a $30,000 wedding package following a vote-tampering incident.
TV One's Good Morning show earlier this week scrapped all votes received in its wedding competition after "voting irregularities" were found in ballots cast by members of the public.
Voting had closed for the competition, but during the routine check of the emailed ballots, it was found some had come from invalid email addresses, or without the authorisation of the owners of the email addresses.
TVNZ invalidated the vote and started again using text message voting instead of email.
The competition allowed the public to vote for one of six finalist couples competing for a $30,000 wedding package, including a honeymoon in Tahiti, with their nuptials broadcast on national TV.
The winners were announced this morning as Kelly Heays and Kelly Heke from Te Awamutu.
The male Kelly met female Kelly two years ago, after asking his younger brother if his girlfriend had an older sister. She did.
He said the first thing that went through his mind when they met was "I'm going to marry this beautiful girl one day".
He proposed to her at his sister's wedding and they will now marry live on television.
The couple's wedding will screen next Friday on Good Morning with former Breakfast host Kay Gregory as celebrant. Preparations for the big day will be televised during the week.
