A record number of enrolments were received for this year's election - 2,990,759 compared with 2,847,396 in 2005.
They made up 95.31 per cent of the estimated eligible voting population compared with 95.22 per cent in 2005. But high enrolment did not translate into turnout.
The 78.69 per cent of enrolled voters estimated to have cast ballots is the second-lowest total since 1987.
