A group of eminent New Zealanders yesterday demanded a return to a full publicly-funded TVNZ.
So how would a night's telly viewing look if they got their way with a return to "quality" programming?
Careful analysis of statements by the group's leading figures yesterday suggest it could go something like this:
7pm: Close to Home: Classic Kiwi soap. No lesbian weddings here, mate.
7.30pm: A Week of It: Classic Kiwi satire. Laugh with Wayne.
8pm: Gallery: Serious political interview. Just what you want in prime time.
8.30pm: Upstairs, Downstairs: Quality British drama. Must be good, then.
9.30pm: The Onedin Line: See above.
10.30pm: Goodnight Kiwi theme tune: Because it's bedtime now. And you can forget about watching telly over breakfast ...
Turning back the clock: a good night in
