Tuhirangi had good reason to celebrate their 22-15 win over Puketoi in their Shannahan Cup senior second division rugby match on Saturday.
It was a notable victory for Tuhirangi, who started the season in the senior reserves competition and, after heading the first round points table, were promoted into the seniors seconds along with Pioneer B and Martinborough B.
Joining them were the three sides relegated from premier division, Rams, Marist and Puketoi, and Saturday's success was the first achieved by Tuhirangi over one of those teams.
In other Shannahan Cup matches, Pioneer B beat Martinborough B 32-12 and the Rams defeated Marist 30-3.
In the Ryan Cup senior thirds competition, the Rams and Carterton drew 13-13, Greytown edged out Gladmarist 32-19 and Eketahuna beat East Coast 15-0.
