"IT takes two to tangle," truck racer Malcolm Little said yesterday, commenting on Tuesday's report on a truck racing tangle at Manfeild on Sunday.
Trucks driven by national champion Andrew Porter and New Zealand No 2 Little came together through a corner in the final race of the championship at Manfeild, at the very spot where, four years ago, Little and Robin Porter collided, bringing Porter senior's racing career to an end.
Little and Andrew Porter, Robin Porter's son, were hauled before the clerk of the course on Sunday and told to clean up their act.
On Tuesday, Little said Porter had no need to try to cut him off at the corner. "He's got the power. He can drive around us." Today, Little said both he and Porter were to blame.
"I could have backed out ? there was nothing to gain. He'd already won the championship in the previous race and he was dominant throughout the series."
Little said he regretted things had escalated as much as they had. It wasn't good for the sport, he said. His reference to the support of other drivers related to competition, not any dispute he might have with Porter.
He still had some way to go to match Porter and was looking at a new engine to try to bridge the gap.
