A truckie fled a Masterton fuel stop after a diesel spill at the site yesterday morning.
Masterton fire station officer Tony Gibbs said a fire crew was called to the site in Buchanan Place, Solway about 8.30am.
He said about 40 litres of diesel fuel had been spilt at the scene, which was fortunately a contained site "so anything that's spilled goes in to a sump and not any nearby waterways".
Mr Gibbs said the offending truck and driver had "left before we got there" and district council officers and contractors were alerted to the spill.
