Truck fire closes State Highway 3 in south Taranaki

State Highway 3 was closed just before 5am today when a truck caught fire near Waverley in south Taranaki.

Sergeant Andre Kowalczyk, of the police central communications centre, said a B-train type truck caught fire 9km west of Waverley.

The truck was totally burned out and the wreck was completely blocking one lane, Mr Kowalczyk said.

Traffic was being diverted and the road would reopen once heavy salvage equipment removed the truck.
