A truck driver was trapped in his cab for more than an hour after crashing into a rock wall north of Nelson overnight.
The incident happened on the western side Whangamoa Saddle, about 2.40am, a Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter spokesperson said.
The 53-year-old driver was trapped when his cab was crushed around him.
The fire service and a St John Ambulance crew and the rescue helicopter's onboard intensive care paramedic worked together for about 40 minutes to free the driver from his truck, the spokesperson said.
"Amazingly the driver appears to have escaped serious injury, but was airlifted to Nelson Hospital for further assessment."
