Truck driver seriously injured in crash

A truck driver suffered serious facial injuries after his vehicle rolled at a roundabout and struck a power pole in Hamilton this morning.

The truck and trailer unit crashed at the intersection of State Highway 1 and Morrinsville Rd, by the Hillcrest shopping centre, about 5.30am, Hamilton police spokesman Andrew McAlley said.

The driver was cut from the cab and taken to Waikato Hospital with serious facial injuries.

The southbound lane of SH1 was closed to all but one lane of traffic, while northbound traffic was still flowing slowly.

The road would be closed to all southbound traffic while emergency services removed the truck, which had been carrying one empty container.

Motorists would be diverted to SH26 towards Morrinsville.
