A truck driver whose vehicle was shunted more than 50 metres along a railway line after colliding with a freight train is in a critical but stable condition.
The man, aged in his early 60s, was flown to Auckland Hospital after the 10.30am crash in Kumeu, northwest of the city yesterday.
The collision between his truck and a train travelling from Whangarei occurred at the Boord Crest level crossing, near the intersection of Trotting Course Rd and Waitakere Rd.
He was the only person in the truck at the time.
