Police have released the name of the truck driver killed when his truck crashed into the cliff face on State Highway 1 in North Canterbury on Sunday.
Russell John Clark, 48, from Christchurch was driving an articulated truck carrying frozen chickens north on SH1 when he failed to negotiate a 55km/h recommended bend and crashed into a cliff at the Conway River at 8.30am
Senior Constable Arnold Hooykaas of the Amberley police said no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The police Serious Crash Unit commercial vehicle investigation unit, and an NZTA mechanic were investigating the accident, Mr Hooykaas said.
The Labour Weekend road toll was eight, the same as last year.
