Truck driver escapes bridge collapse

A truck driver had a lucky escape this morning when the Grey Bridge in the Hauraki District collapsed just after the heavy vehicle had made it safely across.

The bridge is at the intersection of Miranda Rd and SH25 in Waitakaruru at the southern end of the Firth of Thames.

Inspector Gavin MacDonald of Waikato police says there are two bridges at the intersection and the second one is being now being used for all traffic.
