An Auckland truck driver has appeared in court charged with the death of a Hamilton cyclist.
Michael Allan Hodgins, 45, of Manurewa, faces charges of careless driving causing the death of Graeme Leach on Te Rapa Rd on April 5 and making a false logbook entry of a 30-minute break on April 3.
Leach, a retired Hamilton teacher and writer, died after his bike was allegedly hit by the Halls Transport truck and trailer unit being driven by Hodgins on Te Rapa Rd as it turned left into Sunshine Ave.
The 67-year-old died at the scene.
Hodgins was remanded on bail without plea to reappear later this month.
