The driver of a truck carrying milk powder has been charged with drink-driving after an accident which left a Marlborough state highway looking snow-coated.
The accident happened on State Highway 63, east of Wairau Valley township, when a truck trailer containing 26 500kg bags of milk powder overturned just before 4pm yesterday.
The trailer skidded for 150 metres, leaving a trail of white milk powder in its wake, The Marlborough Express reported. Constable Michelle Stagg said the driver then disconnected the trailer and left in the truck.
Police found him in Renwick shortly afterwards.
He was taken to the Blenheim police station where he blew an alcohol reading of 898mcg, more than twice the legal limit.
