Truck crash blocks State Highway 1 north of Cheviot, Canterbury

A truck crash blocked State Highway 1 just north of the Canterbury town of Cheviot for much of this morning.

Police said the truck crashed into a bank about 8.15am.

One person was seriously injured in the crash and a rescue helicopter called, police said.

The road, also known as Parnassus Rd, was blocked and diversions were in place, police said.

The road has since been reopened.

Motorists were advised the avoid the area if possible or expect delays.
