A truck carrying a cargo of booze has blocked State Highway 2 between Napier and Wairoa, after it rolled into a ditch.
The road is still blocked after the 8am crash, while a crane works on recovering the truck, Senior Sergeant Nick Dobson said.
"For whatever reason the truck's left the road and it's gone into a ditch and rolled on to its side. I believe there's a reasonable amount of alcohol in there -- which tends to break when one tips it on its side with a bit of gusto.
Mr Dobson said the Hooker Pacific truck's driver was unhurt, and he was unsure about the cause of the crash, though the road was a bit bendy and "not the greatest."
A New Zealand Transport Agency map of the accident shows it occurred on a sharp bend in the road.
