A hazardous materials unit was called to the scene of a fertiliser truck fire near Rotorua this morning.
The cab of the fertiiser truck was gutted after fire broke in the engine area.
Maketu fire station officer Shane Gourlay said they received the callout to attend the State Highway 33 blaze about 9.45am.
A fire crew from Te Puke also attended the incident, in the Sun Valley area.
"It was well involved when we arrived, it was contained to the cab, the top of truck canopy was all burnt. The driver was out of the truck."
