KEY POINTS:
Eighteen troubled South Auckland teens have been given a sneak peek into their futures, should they decide not to sort their lives out now. The Mangere College students were taken to Auckland's remand prison at Mt Eden to show them exactly what jail life is like.
Manager Mack Herewini says the students were not at all concerned about the prospect of prison on arrival. But after hearing what Mr Herewini and uniformed guards had to say, he says the teens saw what prison life is really like.
Mack Herewini says four or five of the students have opted to turn their lives around, which is extremely rewarding. He says he hopes the initiative is expanded to help other teens in need.
