Tropical Cyclone Funa is edging closer. It is currently a Category Three cyclone, off the coast of Fiji.
Weather analyst Philip Duncan says gale force winds and high cloud are moving down the country. He says from Cape Reinga down the east coast to the Hauraki Gulf, winds are reaching more than 100 kilometres an hour.
Philip Duncan expects wind and heavy rain warnings to be issued over the coming days.
Funa is expected to make its presence felt in New Zealand around the time the state funeral for Sir Edmund Hillary is being held in Auckland.
