The Ruamahanga Barefoot Waterski Club has three strong contenders for the New Zealand squad for the world championships in Brandenburg, Germany, later this year.
Sarah Linton, Matthew Forsyth and Bevan Kelly have competed in three regional championships this season, all of which doubled as team selection meets, and have achieved excellent results.
Linton has made the big step from junior girls' to women's open ranks. She picked up thirds in all three of her events and third overall at the Wellington regionals, second in all her events and third overall at Waikato and first in slalom, third in tricks and second overall at Bay of Plenty last weekend. She is aiming for a strong performance at the national championships on Lake Inspiration, Otaki, next month to boost her chances.
Forsyth has won all three tournaments held in the fiercely contested junior boys' division and it will be a huge surprise if he fails to make the national junior team. His progress is evidenced by him being ranked fourth last season and now he can claim to be number one.
Kelly looks assured of a place in New Zealand's senior line-up for the worlds as he is the top-ranked senior (over 35yrs) in the country but he is also keen to make the open men's team.
Trio tipped for Germany
