The identity of three young men charged in relation to the home-invasion knifepoint robbery of a Welcome Bay family can now be revealed.
James Teahu Meldrum, 20, Shelden Chapman, 18, and Corey Chapman, 22, all from Welcome Bay, faced joint charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, threatening to kill and attempting to unlawfully take a motor vehicle when they appeared in Tauranga Community Magistrates' Court this morning.
The charges relate to the alleged invasion of Waipuna Grove family's home about 4am yesterday while they slept.
It is also alleged the trio armed with knives threatened and assaulted a 45-year-old man, stole money and a necklace before also trying to make off with a $7000 Honda vehicle.
Police opposed bail for the trio who court documents show lived together in the same street as their alleged victim. None of the trio sought bail today.
