A leading figure in the New Zealand dairy industry, John Luxton's peers salute him in a special ceremony.
Long-serving DairyNZ chairman John Luxton stepped down last month at DairyNZ's annual meeting after more than a decade of service to dairy industry bodies.
Praise came from all quarters for his contribution to the industry, with the Minister for Primary Industries Nathan Guy attending the AGM and presenting John with a special certificate in recognition of his service.
Dairy industry leaders including Fonterra chairman John Wilson and Tatua chairman Steve Allen praised John's humble and dedicated approach to industry leadership and his valuable work in representing dairy farmers' interests.
As well as leading industry and community bodies, John was a Member of Parliament for 15 years and a Cabinet minister from 1990 to 1999. He was minister of a dozen different portfolios including agriculture, fisheries, commerce, Maori development, police, customs, housing and energy. As Mr Guy commented, "he was minister for almost everything".
