Tribal Huk gang leader Jamie Pink spent the weekend in mental health care after being arrested on gun charges.
Pink was arrested and charged with firearms offences on Friday after police took his vehicle which was riddled with bullet holes.
It follows claims by Pink he had been shot at and "lost an eyeball" in a so-called war to rid Ngaruawahia of the drug methamphetamine. He said "two little old ladies" shot at him as he sped away in his black SUV.
There is no record of Pink being hospitalised at Waikato Hospital for an eye injury and a police spokesman said no complaint had been laid in relation to the alleged shooting of the vehicle they had examined.
Two shotguns were found in Pink's vehicle and charges were laid after he was interviewed by police about his public statements.
