Triangle Television will begin broadcasting on Freeview today.
Broadcasting Minister Steve Maharey will officially "switch on" Triangle Stratos at 12.30pm, bringing a mixture of regional and global programmes to the whole country.
Triangle Television already operates two regional channels, Triangle Television Auckland, which has been broadcasting for nine years, and Triangle Television Wellington, which began almost a year ago.
The new channel will include international news and current affairs shows from broadcasters such as Germany's DW-TV, Voice of America and al-Jazeera.
