A jury has been selected for the trial of Christchurch man Peter John Carroll, who denies murdering Marcus Luke Tucker, whose body was found burned and dumped by a Canterbury lake on Anzac Day last year.
The body of Tucker, 36, was found dumped near Lake Ellesmere on Drain Rd, Doyleston.
He was severely assaulted before his body was burned and then reportedly wrapped in some material, police say.
Carroll, 52, denies the murder and is standing trial at the High Court in Christchurch.
A jury of five women and seven men was empanelled this morning. Opening addresses are expected to follow.
