The former ambulance officer accused of committing sex offences against women patients while on the way to hospital in an ambulance will stand trial.
However, strict suppression orders surround the case and prevent media from revealing his name, occupation, employer, the number of complainants or exact nature of the charges.
The 33-year-old appeared in a three-day depositions hearing in the Auckland District Court this week where his lawyer conceded the police had prima facie evidence against him. The man pleaded not guilty.
Last week the Herald on Sunday revealed that the man still worked as a health professional, which meant many of his patients were unaware of the charges against him.
The alleged offending took place in Auckland in late 1999 and early 2000 while female patients were being transported by ambulance.
Police began the investigation in mid-2004. He was arrested in October.
