The men's stableford round, in a long/short draw format, played on Saturday, April 29, resulted in a good win to Trevor Clayton with his 42 point total.
Hugh Rolls was only one point in arrears with 41 and, as Hugh was also playing in a Coyle Cup pairs match, that was bad news for Hugh's opponents.
Both Lynn Evans and Tim Druzianic scored 40 while Bill Shakespeare was on his own in fifth place with 39.
Three players ? Russ Morgan, Chris Connor and Dean Schaef ? all accumulated 38 and Kevin Hooper completed the prize winners list with his score of 37.
The Marquis of Normanby Hotel Men's Nearest the Pin, on hole 15 on this occasion, was won by Craig Wilson but the "All Teed Up" ball for men eluded all comers.
Holes in two were achieved by Gary Wright, Bill Shakespeare, Craig Wilson, Ray Clarke and John Lett.
WOMEN ? SATURDAY:
Only a small field played in the L.G.U. Round on Saturday, April 29, this round counting for the Aotearoa Cup, Coronation Medal, Best Gross Cup and the Veterans Cup.
Val Edwards, with a 72 nett score won the day from Emma Wills on 74 and Corrie van Zanten on 77.
The New World Carterton Women's Nearest the Pin prize was not struck on this occasion but Corrie van Zanten claimed the "All Teed Up" ball for women.
SUNDAY:
A stableford round was also played on Sunday, April 30, and the field was headed by Peter Mallitte with 35 points from four players on 34 ? David Wills, Lyn Evans, John Braiden and Greg Mullis.
No player was able to score a hole in two.
VETERANS ? TUESDAY:
The veterans group was joined by 27 players from the Palmerston North Golf Club on Tuesday, May 2, in misty, still conditions.
Three players scored 42 points at the head of the field and, by countback, a visitor, Dennis Munn won the day.
Graham Steffert filled second slot and Bernie O'Brien, third.
Mike Newport, on 41, was fourth, John Lett,, on 40, fifth and Matt Casey, with 39 points, sixth.
PRIOR RESULTS:
The lack of a report last week (my fault entirely) meant that several important results went unreported.
The Tararua Trophy, a best two of three stableford rounds event, was won by Ian Gordon. Ian scored a total of 87 points in his two best rounds.
The ANZAC Day tournament was played even although the weather was most inclement. The winner of the tournament was Tony McCarthy.
The veterans 12,000 Mile Challenge went down to the wire. The Carterton players scored a total of 556 points for their best fifteen players and the St Augustines veterans came back with 564 for the win.
The Wednesday LGU round counting for the Aotearoa Cup, the Coronation Medal, the Best Gross Cup and the Veterans Cup was won by Judy Wright with a nett 71 from Mary Edwards, on 72 and Barbara Birchall on 73.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING:
The Annual General Meeting of the club was held in the evening of April 26 and was well attended.
David Wills completed his time as Club Captain at this meeting and can look back on some very good work. Steven Larsen did not stand for re-election as House Convenor and was also thanked for his contribution to the club.
Officers of the Club elected at the AGM were:
President: Russ Sadler; Club Captain: Allan Heffer; Assistant Club Captain: Stu Ingham; Finance Convenor: Ray White; Course Convenor: Alistair Smith; House Convenor: Mike Newport.
The Women's Captain, Marion Matheson, is also a member of the Committee during her term of office.
FOOTNOTE:
There are two footnotes this week.
A player whose exploits had gone unreported commented on this sad fact and the omission is corrected this week.
Who was the player? Well I suppose you could call him a rather Big Mac!
The second footnote has to do with some excessive scoring during the stableford round played when the Palmerston North players visited Carterton.
Matt Casey, Secretary/Manager of the club was playing with a visitor and they came up against a rather tough combination in Graham Steffert and Bernie O'Brien. On one hole, in particular, Matt and his partner scored a combined 7 stableford points ? normally an easy win. But no! Graham and Bernie, between them, scored 8 points!
One can only sympathise with Matt and his partner when Graham and Bernie shared 84 points evenly between them for the round.
Trevor Clayton has success in stableford round
