Head makeup artist Amber D describes the look she created at Trelise Cooper as "Winter Rose with a M.A.C edge". Trelise is known for her fondness of pretty, unabashedly feminine clothes and makeup, and despite the M.A.C-given edge, this year's look was no exception.
Sure, you may scoff, "Trelise with an edge", but believe me, the designer committed.
The stand out feature of this face was a dark red-black lip, a total departure from Trelise shows past. Sure, there have been bold lips before, but never one so almost-goth. The lip was layered with a black-red glitter to deepen the effect.
Models were gifted fresh highlighted skin and glazed eyelids to compliment the heavy lip and cheeks were made lilac by virtue of two different colours of eyeshadow. There were even black nails, which shows you how serious Trelise was about adding an edge.
The hair was reminiscent of the signature Jackie O. bob. Teased and crimped underneath to add maximum volume, then smoothed over the top, it was a big, modern bouffant.
Head stylist Grant Bettjeman wanted hair that looked good from both the side and the front. He also wanted the hair to be uniform, so it would provide maximum impact from the start but allow people to concentrate on the clothes after the first four or five girls.
The hair was slightly deconstructed, to conform to the edict that it should float as the girls walked. The bobs were swept back and away from the face to enable the faces to stand out as much as possible.
The look really did mark a departure while remaining steadfastly "Trelise". Looks like Amber was right about that edge.
