A bid to let people taking official oaths affirm their commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi will fail tonight.
Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox's private member's bill will have its first reading but won't progress because of opposition from National and New Zealand First.
Fox has said a lack of recognition for the Te Tiriti o Waitangi stood out during her swearing in at Parliament in 2014.
Her bill would give people such as MPs, new citizens and lawyers the option to include wording that makes clear their commitment to perform their duties in accordance with Treaty principles.
A similar bill put forward by Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell in 2012 failed after National, New Zealand First, Act and United Future voted it down.
