KEY POINTS:
Lower Hutt police were surprised today by the extent of a treasure trove of stolen property they found in a house in suburban Epuni.
The items were believed to have come from burglaries across Wellington.
Compressors, cameras and other electronic items including television sets and radios, and construction and household power tools were included in the haul, found during a search warrant at a private house.
A quantity of pre-cursor drugs was also found.
Inspector Geoff Gwyn, of Lower Hutt police, said the extent of the haul surprised police.
"Items, some of them in boxes, were piled waist high in one of the rooms," he said.
"We filled our caravan and a couple of vans."
Police expected it would take several days to catalogue all the items and try to match them to reported burglaries.
"We believe the haul has come from a variety of house and commercial burglaries, including construction sites," Mr Gwyn said.
People who thought their property might be included in the haul should contact Lower Hutt police, he said.
Mr Gwyn said the successful haul was the result of an intelligence operation that culminated in the arrest of a man last night for assault, and the subsequent execution of today's search warrant at his address.
