A fishing trawler has grounded on the East Cape early this morning, although there are no reports of an oil leak.
The Philip V grounded just north of the Waiapu River mouth, north of Ruatoria, around 1am, Maritime New Zealand spokeswoman Sarah Brazil said.
It is not yet known whether the 18.8m, 48 tonne steel vessel has leaked any fuel, Ms Brazil said.
"We have informed the harbour master and also marine pollution response service."
Ms Brazil said there are two people on board, who are both safe and well and remaining on board.
